Making the right connections

ins-place2The PLACE-it project utilized the very latest technologies within LED and OLED to create soft, flexible textile materials that are also an efficient light source.

Light is important for both health and mood; it is used in treatment of skin diseases and sensors that measure oxygen saturation in the blood. It is therefore highly relevant, to research and develop light sources that are flexible, bendable and as soft as ordinary textiles.

The technology can also be used in completely new designs for energy-saving lamps and even curtains to mimic ordinary daylight.

Project Partners
There were 12 partners in the consortium with Dutch company, Philips Research as the coordinator. Other partners included: Philips Lighting, Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, Technische Universitat Berlin, Freudenberg Forschungsdienste KG, Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre, Centexbel, TITV Greiz, Grupo Antolin, innovationLab, RWTH Aachen.

Role of Ohmatex
Ohmatex developed connectors for these new fabrics which resulted in the development of the first fully washable textile connector for smart textiles and thin substrates.
